Not everything was totally OK, here are the comments published in the mexican newspaper Reforma, where they criticize Tarkan for singing in play-back during a performance at a mexican disco.
Tarkan sends kisses in play-back
Reforma (16-03-2000). - During his visit to Mexico, Tarkan made a small performance at Medusas nightclub, where the turkish singer just "danced" three songs and sent his popular kisses in play-back, since he didn't sing live (just lip singing??) It was organized by Stereo 97.7 radio station. Dressed with a white shirt and black pants (look at the photo), Tarkan appeared on stage, between the cries of the girls there, saying "gracias" (thank-you in spanish), the only word in spanish he learned, although people appreciated his efforts. "You are incredible, I love
you. I tell you, I've been in a lot of countries in Europe, the
United States, South America, but I have never found people like
you, you really have a feeling," he Nevertheless, he just sang in play-back, so it was the same to watch him there or in a video. For his fans, that simply didn't matter, for they gave him all the support and affection they had. This surprised Tarkan, he never imagined that he would be such a phenomenon in Mexico. General delirium began when the third song began, Simarik, or the kiss song, when the place became sort of a madhouse because of the cries and hysterical attitudes of the excited teenagers. After Simarik, Tarkan said good-bye to his fans, promising he would return soon to make some performances and to give a lot of kisses (which might be real, next time).
